Ferrule Insertion and Fiber Alignment The bare fiber is inserted into a ferrule, which acts as the alignment mechanism. Ferrules are precisely bored to slightly exceed the fiber diameter, ensuring accurate centering. Proper alignment is critical to minimize insertion loss and maintain signal integrity . 3. Polishing the Fiber End Face The fiber end face is polished to achieve a smooth, flat, or angled surface depending on the connector type (e.g., PC, APC).
